It’s natural to think about painting our doors as the finish has an authentic timber look. However, it is not faced with timber and is finished with an ABS plastic skin and a UPVC edge banding material. This finish combined with our solid timber core means the door is virtually maintenance free and will never require painting.
If you wish to paint the face of one of our doors or have it sprayed a different color, it can be done but we must emphasize that the door is not designed to be sprayed. Should you take on this task, please be aware that your warranty will not cover any damage to the skin or its finish.
U-values measure how effective a material is as an insulator. The lower the U-value is, the better the material is as a heat insulator. There is a balance between achieving optimum benefit that you will receive from a door which is opened many times a day and achieving high security standards. The overall U-value of our composite door range is guaranteed to be 1.5wm2/K or better. The required building standards for composite door manufacture is 1.8Wm2/K which we easily surpass.
A Distinction GRP composite door has a wealth of facts and figures that prove its quality. The door:
- Reduces outdoor noise by an average of 31dB
- Achieves Global Warming Potential (GWP) score of less than 5
Achieves Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) score of zero
Doors were tested at the University of Salford’s Energy House. This represents a typical Salford 1919 terraced house and its construction represents 21% of the UK’s current housing stock.
The house has been reconstructed in a fully environmentally controllable chamber, in which climatic conditions
can be maintained, varied, repeated and patterns monitored. For the test, the inside temperature of the Energy House was 25oC with an exterior temperature of 5oC.
